I am a big believer in always looking put together. Whether it's for a big meeting, a fancy date, or even running around doing errands, I believe that someone should put a little thought into how they look. And no, I don't mean put on a full-face of make-up and wear 6-inch heals to check the mail, but just look somewhat presentable, don't you agree?
One way that you can always look put together is to have nice, well-kept nails. I know for me, I can't have bare nails and cringe at chipped nail polish (it's actually a HUGE pet peeve of mine). I know it sounds crazy but there's something about having painted nails that completes an entire look. I've created this little mini-series to share with you guys some of my faves when it comes to nail polishes. So without further adieu, let's begin with some dark colours!
I am a huge fan of dark, deep colours. Since I am quite pale, a lot of darker colours compliments my skin-tone and I find myself gravitating towards this colour pallet. Here are four of my top nail polishes for this category...
I think that every girl should have a deep red /wine colour in her collection regardless of their skin tone. I gravitate towards "moulin rouge" when I'm in a slump because it just seems to go with everything. It's a classic colour that you could never go wrong with. The CoCo and LuLu brand is amazing quality but I do find that you need at least three coats to get the right shade. It's lasting power is great and will last me at least a week without chipping.
I absolute adore Joe Fresh nail polishes because not only are they great quality but they're really affordable. Their nail polishes are $4 each or 3/$10, like seriously, how much cheaper can you get? This a perfect gray/purple colour and all it needs is 2 coats to get the right shade. "Eggplant" is perfect for the fall/winter season but it also works in the spring/summer because the purple undertones gives it some life.
Revlon is by far my favourite nail polish brand. They know how to make great nail polishes and it's shown through their formula. Even though "dominate" is your standard brown colour, it's the perfect substitute for black when you outfit calls for something more subtle. Revlon is one of the (very) few nail polish brands that I'm willing to pay full-price for so that says a lot about the quality.
If the name alone doesn't attract you to it, then I don't know what's your with you! I love this colour because it allows for the element of moodiness in the gray/brown undertone but the tiny specs of silver gives the balance between dark and light. This is perfect for those nights out where your outfit just calls for something subtlety sparkly.
As you can see by the picture, all 4 colours compliment my pale skin. When it comes to finding the right colour for your skin tone, don't be afraid to try it on in-store. Most companies will allow for it and doing so will save you money, so take advantage! The next category we will look at in this series are those perfect nudes that every girl should have in her collection...
I would love to see some of your go-to nail polishes so please feel free to share!
